CfA [closed]: Head of Administration for New Delhi (ICAS:MP)

The M.S. Merian – R. Tagore International Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences (ICAS:MP) advertises the position of a Head of Administration.

ICAS:MP is financed by the German Ministry of Education and Research and has its main location in New Delhi. It is organised collectively by an Indo-German consortium consisting of the Centre for Modern India, University of Würzburg; the Centre for Modern Indian Studies (CeMIS), University of Göttingen; the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS), New Delhi; the Centre for the Study of Social Sciences Calcutta (CSSSC), Kolkata; the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG), New Delhi; the Max Weber Centre for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies, University of Erfurt and the Max Weber Foundation, Bonn, with its German Historical Institute London (GHIL). After the first phase (ending in 2018) and a positive evaluation the Centre is expected to be funded for a first main phase of 6 years and possibly a second phase of 3 years.

The Head of Administration resides at the Centre in New Delhi and assists the two Directors, one each from the German and Indian consortia, in running ICAS:MP. He or she will coordinate ICAS:MP’s German and Indian administrative wings, ensure the smooth flow of information among project partners, and oversee the preparation of central meetings and activities. The administration of ICAS includes also the budget management of external funding, human resource management (from Germany as well as local employees) and procurements. The management is cooperating closely with the central office of the Max Weber Foundation in Bonn as well as with all the other project partners in India and Germany. The following are required:

  • Administrative training or relevant qualification,
  • thorough knowledge of German budgetary, cash and grant law,
  • thorough knowledge of personnel management,
  • skills in dealing with contractors,
  • excellent organisational and (digital) communicative skills
  • excellent German and English language skills, willingness and ability to learn Hindi.

An academic background and professional experience in the German public service or in the Indian or German university system or working experiences in India are of advantage.

The appointment is initially for 24 months with the possibility of extension. If the successful candidate is a resident of Germany and an EU citizen, he/she will be eligible for foreign posting allowances in accordance with federal civil service regulations. We offer a reasonable payment based on your qualifications and the requirements of the German public service (TVöD).
